As the fall season approaches, we need to address our horses’ readiness to hunt.  Many folks give their hunt horses time off after the end of the season in the spring, while others keep riding, both on trails and in shows.  Different breeds used in the hunt field have differing conditioning needs.  All conditioning programs should keep in mind that the goal is to have horses ready to follow hounds, whether that is a  slow trail ride, or a gallop over uneven terrain in trappy footing.  Conditioning should mimic hunting conditions as the program progresses and the season approaches.
